He was predeceased by: his parents, Troy Copeland and Lydia Copeland (Hammermeister); and his brother Ronald Copeland. He is survived by: his wife Sandy (Honaker); his children, Shawn Copeland (Jane) of Davidson, Lisa Barnett (Monty) of South Charleston and Lindsey Goins (Michael) of Charleston; his grandchildren, Grace Anne Copeland, Gibson Copeland, Jenna Barnett, Wyatt Barnett, Keaton Goins and Sullivan Goins; his siblings, Phyllis Copeland of Selah, Washington, Leonard Copeland (Beverly "Bev") of South Bend, Indiana and Loren Copeland of South Bend, Indiana; and his cousin Judy Harrington of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He is also survived by other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
