She was predeceased by: her parents, John William and Margaret L. Hill Yates; her husband Donald R. Shirkey; her grandson Cody A. Sneed; and her brothers, John W. "Butch" Yates and Edward Yates.
She is survived by: her daughter Betty Haynes of South Charleston; her grandchildren, Timothy R. Turley and Danielle N. Smith; her sister Terri D. Moles of Scott Depot; and her sisters-in-law, Linda Yates of South Charleston and Wanda Wilson of Charleston. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
