He is survived by: his wife Jane Hain Ray; his daughters, Anne Ray Silbernagel, Elizabeth Lakin Cook (Tom) and Jane Ray Halpin (Steve); and his grandchildren, John Lakin Ray Silbernagel (Ashley), Andrew Riggin Silbernagel (Julia Hurwitz), Stephen Robert Halpin III, Catherine Elizabeth Halpin, Emmarilla Lane Silbernagel, Frederick Lawrence Silbernagel and John Nicholas Silbernagel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's honor be made to the Library Foundation of Kanawha County, The Antiphonal Organ Project at Christ Church United Methodist, or The West Virginia Symphony.
