He was predeceased by: his wife Julia Reynolds (Judy); his son James II; and his parents, Stephen Irving Sr. and Helen. He is survived by: his son Jeffrey; his daughter-in-law Kimberly Irving (Aquanetta Fyall); his brother Stephen Irving (Diane); his niece Caitlyn Sechuk (Jonathan); and his nephew Stephen Irving.
