He was predeceased by: his parents, James Carey and Arbutus Carey Higginbotham. He is survived by: his wife Betty Carey; his sons, Joey Carey (Ebony) of Charleston and Shawn Hartleroad (Laura) of Charleston; and his siblings, Elizabeth Dempsey of St. Albans, Jim Carey (Peggy) of Hurricane, Pat Carey (Sharon) of Hurricane and Rex Carey (Bobbi) of Hurricane.
