He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert R. Adkins and Joan McGatha Adkins; his grandparents, John W., Sarah McGatha, Okie and Della Belle Adkins; his sister Susan Workman; and his nephew Andrew Peterson.

He is survived by: his sister Robin Manns (Ernie); his nieces and nephews, Jonathan, William Peterson, Carrie Manns, Sandra, Ashley and Kayla Workman; and his great-nephews, Carson and Kingston Petersons.
