He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Kenneth and Cora Cox Dawson; his wife Martha Ellen Deem Dawson; and his sons, Tommy and Dean Dawson.

He is survived by: his children, Walter G. Dawson, Kenneth D. Dawson (Charlene) and Lou Ann Dawson-Smoot. He is also survived by several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandkids.
