He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Joseph Unger and Anna Lee Palmer Unger; his wife Priscilla Agnes Smith Unger; his children, Richard Unger and Phyllis Unger; and his son-in-law Newt Cain.
He is survived by: his children, Russell C. Unger, Jr. (Sherry) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mary Ann Cain of Middleway, WV and Martha Ayo (Tommy) of Spotsylvania, VA; his daughter-in-law Ann Unger; and his brother Elwood Unger. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
