He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Shafer and Dessie Hauger Shafer; his former wife Helen Feather Shafer; his brothers, Paul, Alva (Virginia), Herbert (Vertrude), Russel, Fredy and Franklin; his granddaughter Tanya (John Hlatky); and also, Ada Mae, Joe Krempel, Glenna, Dave McCarty, Maxine and Hubert Sisler.
He is survived by: his wife Wanda M. Sexton Shafer; his daughter Billie Jean; his sisters, Lou Anna Sisler and Martha Smith; and his sister-in-law Mary Shafer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
