He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold V. Tate and Olive "Cookie" Tate (Fansler). He is survived by: his wife Caroline Tate (Wilson); his children, Christy Tate of Bridgeport and Bradley Tate of Bridgeport; his stepgrandchildren, Adislynn Kellar and Wesley Perry; his siblings, Karen Tate, Shari Tate and David Tate of Clarksburg; and also Amber Kellar.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to the Bridgeport Lions Club, P.O. Box 162, Bridgeport, WV 26330.
