He is survived by: his family, Virginia Tech and Bluefield Orioles (Ridge Runners); his wife Patricia Garland Hoge; his sons, James Strother Hoge (Eunice) of Longwood, FL, John Evans Hoge (Teresa) of Pulaski, VA, Robert Bruce Hoge of Beverly Hills, FL and Joseph Alan Hoge (Kathy) of Christiansburg, VA; his grandchildren, Robert Jason Hoge (Jennifer), Jeffrey Scott Hoge, Kari Hoge O'Briant (John), Brandon Hoge, Viviana Hoge, Campo (Jacob) and Gabriella Hoge; his great grandchildren, Emily, Ethan, Andrew, Asher and Jack; and his caregivers, Ann Addair, Sue Gillespie, Patty Holdren, Gay Wine, Connie Wornal and Charlie.
