He was predeceased by: his parents, John Adkins and Hattie Ayers Adkins; his wife Betty J. Forren Adkins; his children, Ricky L. Adkins, Nancy Sue Brooks and Sharon K. Terry; and his siblings, Curtis, Ralph, John Jr., Lloyd, Calvin Adkins, Donna Berry, Janelle Whitten and Rita Plumley.
He is survived by: his daughters, Brenda Gwinn (Butch) of Hinton, Mary Wheeler (David Williams) and Sheila Richmond (Ralph Jason) of Buck; and his grandchildren, Mark Brooks, Dusty Brooks (Jena), Jody Gwinn, Jessica Graft (Jeremy), Shawn Terry (Jessica), Melinda Stover (Sterling), T. J. Cales (Brittany) and Skylar Meadows (Taylor). He is also survived by eighteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.
