He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Thornton and Annie Elizabeth Allen Merchant; his daughter Gail Lynn Merchant Croston; and his siblings, Mary Elizabeth Roach, Portia Rico Shives, Anna Mae Merchant, Emma May Merchant, Dorothy Lee Merchant, Vernon Ernest Merchant, Charles Edward Merchant and Glen Cleo Merchant.
He is survived by: his wife Jo Ann Clay Merchant; his children, Tinia Merchant of Altoona, PA, Kenneth "Lil Kenny" Merchant II (Sky) of Berkeley Springs, WV, Kevin Andrew Merchant (Angela) of Berkeley Springs, WV and Kyle Andrew Merchant of Berkeley Springs, WV; his siblings, Alice Jean McCulloh of Mercersburg, PA and Herbert Thornton Merchant, Jr. of Berkeley Springs, WV; his grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, Olivia, Rylee, Tyler, Mason, Allen, Jacob, Jessie and Ally; and his pets, Binx and Bella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 20th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home (95 Union St, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 20th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411 to help defray funeral expenses.
