He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell William and Hilda Mae Carter Schwartzbeck; his siblings, Mary Jane Shipe, Russell and Roy Schwartzbeck; and his grandson Robert Adkins.
He is survived by: his wife Helen M. Beach Schwartzbeck; his children, Sue Ellen Schwartzbeck of Kearneysville, WV, James L Schwatrzbeck, Woodsbine MD (Richard Alan Beach) and John R. Schwartzbeck of Berkeley Springs, WV; his siblings, Belva Bowers of Poolesville, MD., Edward Schwartzbeck of Lisbon, MD, George Schwartzbeck of Martinsburg, WV, Phillip Schwatrzbeck and Boonsboro, MD; his grandchildren, Randy Adkins, Jamie Blankenship, John Schwartzbeck, Jr., Nathan Swartzbeck, Joshua Swartzbeck and Joshua Schwartzbeck; and his great grandchildren, Jaymie Adkins, Laci Adkins, Miley Adkins, Samuel Schwartzbeck and Raegen Schwartzbeck. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
