He was predeceased by: his son Jeffrey Lynn Hovermale; and his siblings, Janie Sirbaugh, Mamie Stotler, Mazie Orndorff, Connie French and Melvin T. Hovermale.
He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Eileen Burke Hovermale; his daughter Amy Elizabeth Stull (J. R. Perry) of Berkeley Springs; his brother Roy B. Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; his grandchildren, Emma Hoover, Taylor Stull, Andrew Hovermale, Cody Hovermale and Cameron Stull; and his great grandchild Bryson Stanley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
