He was predeceased by : his parents, Carl Thomas and Sylvia Kirkbride Pickens; his wife Madelyn Pickens; and his siblings, Carl Norman Pickens and Rita Rogers.

He is survived by : his children, Steve Pickens (Rhetta), Diana Lanham (John) and David Pickens (Julie Ann); and his grandchildren, Jason Lanham (Bobbie), Nicholas Lanham, Joshua Pickens (Brittany), Taylor Hill (AJ), Taylor Hall (Robert), Megan Crooks, Cory Ankrom, Evans and James Evans. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
