She was predeceased by: her parents, Maria Auguste (Geis) and Peter Anton Berninger; her husband John Schaas; her daughter Siglinde Schaas; and her siblings, Hedwig Neuberger, Helena Busch and Willi Berninger.

She is survived by: her children, Bridget Schaas of Steubenville Ohio, John Anthony Schaas (Karen) of Pataskala Ohio, Barbara Ann Smith (Allen) of Bridgeport Ohio, Ellen Anita Kuhar of Elm Grove and Janet Lee Stonebraker (Gregory) of Centerville Ohio. She is also survived by eight Grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
