He was predeceased by: his parents, Wardie Casto and Lucy Jane Smith; his son Paul Smith (Sue); his grandson Timothy Alan Smith; and his siblings, Bobby Willard Smith, Elmer "Curly" Smith, Kenneth Smith, Harold "Jake" Smith, Maggie May, Norma Jean, Mildred Straight and Loraine "Hobo" Hartshorn.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Flinn Smith; his children, Wilma Knapp (Carroll) of Granville, OH, Betty Jean Maxwell of Belleville, WV, Sharon Smith (Greg) of Sandyville, WV, Connie Chambers (Jay) of Ravenswood, WV, Mary Ann Knapp (Gregg) of Belleville, WV, Neal Smith of Fort Gay, WV and Tim Smith (Kimberly) of Belleville, WV; and his nephew Carl "Gene" Straight (Ginger). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
