He is survived by: his wife Donna Kay Gay (Willard); his son Joseph D. Gay, Jr.; his grandchildren, Aiden of Bayard and Richard W. Gay (Cindy) of Bayard; and his brother Roy E. Gay. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; numerous "favorite" nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
