He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude B. Gaines and Mary E. Hitt Gaines; and his son John Thomas "Tommy" Gaines. He is survived by: his wife Carla Williams; his children, James "Stuart" Gaines of Sperryville, VA and Chris M. Newlon (Joshua Bolen) of Front Royal, VA; and his grandchildren, Toby Bridge, Colby Gaines, Cameron and Joshua Mills.
