He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Armstrong Southern and Dorothy White Southern; and his daughter-in-law Shelia Lynn Southern. He is survived by: his wife Frances Hartwell Southern; his children, Walter Clay Southern Jr. and Carolyn Marie Howell (Michael); his grandchildren, Walter Clay Southern III and Grace Howell; his great grandchildren, Kyle Klay Southern, Brady Kole Southern and Briar Bailey; and his siblings, Clayton Southern (Judy) and Sue Hall (Eugene).
