He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Lee and Mary Vanhoy Burns; his son Steven Burns; and his sisters, Avelon Blevins, Rebecca Tincher, Carmen Basin and Gail Spencer.
He is survived by: his wife Arlena Thompson Burns; his daughter Debra Deskins of Ronceverte; and his sisters, Sharon Crook of North Carolinia and Vickie Williams (Raymond) of Alderson. He is also survived by six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren.
