She was predeceased by: her parents, Karl Schrӧedersecker and Christina Schrӧedersecker; her husband Sherman B. Highlander; her son Michael P. Highlander; and her siblings, Adolph and Geta.
She is survived by: her daughters, Martina Highlander-Harvey (Jerry) of Alderson, Heidi Highlander-Via (Darrell) of Covington, VA and Kelly Highlander of Secondcreek, WV; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Murphy (Richard) of Hardy, VA, Emily Averill of Covington, VA, Brycen Johnson of Lewisburg and Aidan Highlander of Alderson; her great grandchild Staley Michael Lane Johnson of Bluefield; her sisters, Mary Ann of Germany, Rosewitha of Germany and Elke of Germany; and her siblings-in-law, Ursula and Clause of Germany. She is also survived by several Nieces and nephews.
