He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Kersten and Eleanor Kersten (Watland); his siblings, Richard Lee Kersten and Maudell Hanson; his brother-in-law Louis Scarpino; and his parents-in-law, Wilburn and Margaret Hampton.

He is survived by: his son Phil; his former wife Margaret Anne Hampton; his godchildren, Tiffany Kersten, Heidi Cash (Hanson), Jill Ragsdale (Vaughn), Shelley Bourgoin (Goldie) and Christopher Scarpino; his close friends, Lenny, Ceal Allgeyer, Wanda, Dean Gennet, Carolyn, Buster Domke, Paul and Lori Beyers; his friend Jerry Lang; his wife Marge; his sons, Philip Kersten (Chanda) and Kevin Kersten (Bethany); his grandchildren, Garret, Maxwell, Drayden and Kiya; his siblings, Nancy Scarpino, Juddie Payne, Roy Crick (Michelle) and Howard Crick (Doris); and his siblings-in-law, Patricia Kersten, Barbara Sexton (Michael) and Rod Hampton (Chris). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
