He was predeceased by: his parents, John Vanderhoef and Lorretta Vanderhoef (Fletcher); his uncle LaVern "Red" Walker; and his mother-in-law Darla Baerenwald. He is survived by: his wife Kim Baerenwald; his stepchildren, Shannon Marti and Shane Marti; his stepgrandchildren, Bryson Marti and Mya Marti; his siblings, Larry Vanderhoef, Sue Cwiklo (Chet) and Mark Vanderhoef; his parents-in-law, Terry Young and Gale Baerenwald; his aunt Della Walker; and his close friends, Clarence and Julie Thurber. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
