He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Smolarek and Mabel Smolarek (Kronstedt); his former wife Gretchen Kroll; his wife Marilyn Christensen; his brother Howard Smolarek; and his stepparents, Steve, Helen Kobza and Robert.
He is survived by: his children, Mike Smolarek (Judy), Jeff Smolarek (Karen) and Patti Ellis; his stepchildren, Ann Schlice (Mike), Mike Christensen (Judy) and Doug Christensen; his sister Geraldine; his grandchildren, Gretchen Smolarek, Kristopher Smolarek, Olivia Fisher (Ryan), Sarah Christensen (Mike) and Megan Tenpas (Nate); his stepgrandchildren, Nick Schlice (Mara) and Alissa Schlice; his great grandchildren, Mikela, Lukki, Jordan, Clayton, Colton, Easton and Rip; and his great great grandchild Adalyn.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Robert's honor. Donations can be made in Robert's name to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
