He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Zabel and Anita Zabel (Kroening); his brother William; his siblings-in-law, Marilyn Zabel and Donald Zieher; his sister Delores; his brother-in-law Jerry Roth; his brother Ray; and his sister-in-law Bernice Kozlowski.

He is survived by: his children, Kevin Zabel of Wisconsin Rapids, Randy Zabel (Kim) of Nekoosa, Brian Zabel of Wisconsin Rapids, James Zabel of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Susan Beckman (Shanen) of Vesper and Karen Schachtschneider (Terry) of Marion, WI; and his sister Beatrice Zieher. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (6412 Michigan St, Vesper, WI 54489). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 12th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
