Dorene A. Gengler Obituary
Dorene was born on November 22nd, 1957 and passed away on December 10th, 2024 at the age of 67.
Dorene A. Gengler passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, after a courageous fight with cancer at Edenbrook surrounded by her loving family. Dorene was born November 22, 1957, to Lynn and Leona (Horn) Vanderwalker. On October 11, 1980, she married the love of her life, Dennis Gengler at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pittsville, WI. She was blessed with two children, Allison Dahl and Daniel Gengler, as well as two grandsons, Anthony Gengler and Dakota Cardo.
Dorene worked at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids for 44 years, first as a respiratory therapist, and later as a registered nurse. She always gave 110% to caring for others in their time of need and touched the lives of countless members of the community. The most important things in her life were her faith and her family. In her free time, she enjoyed making cards and spending time with her friends and family.
Dorene is survived by her special friend and companion Roger Hoefs, children, Allison and Daniel, Grandsons Anthony and Dakota, her siblings Mary Kuse, Jane Czlapinski (Bob Grosinsky), and Ronald (Judy) Vanderwalker, and siblings-in-law Kenneth (Rosemary) Gengler, Mark Gengler, Marilyn (Virgil) Dolores, Betty (Arnie) Hoesly, Joan (Dale) Peterson, and Lynn (Raymond) Starks as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Leona Vanderwalker, brothers-in-law Peter Gengler and Albert Czlapinski Jr, sisters-in-law Arlene Schlotman and Mary Gengler, and her husband Dennis Gengler.
A memorial service and nurses honor guard for Dorene will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church Mission Center 1501 24th St. South in Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the mission center.
Dorene's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Riverview Hospital, Aspirus Riverview Cancer Center and Edenbrook, as well as Dr. D. Nicole Myers, Dr. William Ansa Otu, Dr. Todd Duellman, Dr. Douglas Galuk, Daniel Harrison, NP and Dr. Justin Asquith for the wonderful care they provided during a difficult time in our lives. We can't tell you how much all of you have meant to us. We would also like to thank Herman-Taylor Funeral Home for their compassion and Christa Panzer for being there for Dorene throughout her illness.
