He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry C. Rothenberger and Violetta M. Rothenberger (Ross); his wife Helen M. Rothenberger (Cox); his son Joseph J. Rothenberger, Jr.; his brother Omer R. Rothenberger; and his granddaughter Tammy S. Valko-Trobiani.
He is survived by: his children, David W. Rothenberger of Winter, Wisconsin, Billy R. Rothenberger of Winter, Wisconsin, Brenda J. McGarry of Winter and Debbie J. Dombroski of Belvidere, Illinois; and his sisters, Rosemary M. Linde and Melvena M. Ward of Ridgeville, Indiana. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
