He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Sonnenberg and Vera Sonnenberg (Burmester); and his son Daniel. He is survived by: his wife Beverly Rice; his sons, Mark (Patricia) and Jeff (Trina); his daughter-in-law Doreen Sonnenberg; and his brother David (Rona). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
