He was predeceased by: his parents, Kermit Veum and Alice Veum (Solberg); his wife Elizabeth; and his brother Paul. He is survived by: his stepchildren, Ricky Bakkum (Sandy), Mark Bakkum (Laurie), Kim Hunt (Stephen), Kyle Bakkum (Laurie) and Scott Bakkum (Nancy); his brothers, Trygve Veum (Margie) and Cedric Veum (Margaret); and his sister-in-law Carol Veum. He is also survived by 13 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
