He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Simmons and Richard Simmons; his son Ryan Simmons; and his son-in-law James Dachel. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Barthel; his children, James Simmons (PJ), Kelly Moseler (Lou) and Joy Simmons; his grandchildren, Charlotte, Thomas Simmons, Miranda, Matt, Nick Dachel, Ashleigh, Sam Moseler and Deidre Behrend (Joe Hargan); and his great grandchild Quill Hargan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to 5th Ave. United Methodist Church General Fund or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
