He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Severance and Della Severance (Dunn); his wife Mary Ann Ebert; his siblings, Howard, Russell and Anita; and his grandchildren, Geoffrey and Anna Severance.

He is survived by: his former wife Ruth Koller; his close friend Nancy Rodenkirch; his former wife Ruth Severance; his children, Ted, Lori Brodzeller (Bob), Lynn Kissinger (Steve), Rod and Lisa Goehring (Jay); his grandchildren, Jamie Severance (Sarah), Jennifer Wuensch (Tony), Justin Kissinger (Sami Schoep), Sarah Abfall (Mac), Amanda Goehring (Jack Mueller) and Halle Knaack (Elijah); his stepchildren, Goldie Schuh (Gerard), Joanne Barth (Al), Janet Halfmann (Pete), Lloyd (Julie) and John Ebert (Ruth); his stepgrandchildren, Peter, Beth Mehnert-Roehl (Dave), Jessica Roadt (Kyle), Jason, Lloyd Jr. (Kelly) and Kara Kaiser (Scott Wilde); his siblings, Ken, Lee McKissock, Kathy Luecht and Dorothy Askey (Bob); and also, Cindy Gruber (David), Laura Kleber, Mike Rodenkirch (Carla Schmitt), Bruce Rodenkirch (Carrie) and Kevin (Debie).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for a charity in John's name to be decided on a later date.
