We are sad to announce that on January 7, 2023, at the age of 94, Helen M. Mertzig of West Bend, Wisconsin passed away. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Helen M. Mertzig to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by: her father Charles Klug; her husband Henry Mertzig Jr.; and her siblings, Alberta Teeters (William), William Turner (June) and Lavern Klug.

She is survived by: her children, Richard Mertzig (Patricia), Janice DeRuyter (Rick), Steven Mertzig (Amy), Nancy Fiedler (Randy), James Mertzig (Arlene), Mary Helen Wilson (John) and Mark Mertzig (Julie); her grandchildren, Lisa DeRuyter, Dana Hovind (Tim), Mark DeRuyter (Stephanie), Richard DeRuyter, Jennifer Kissinger (Jeff), Amy Betz (Jason), Tanya Stater (Bryan), Stephanie Bird (Dan), Jessica Taylor (Mike Peters), Jeffrey Rinas, Kristy Falkenstein (Troy), Jacob Mertzig (Maggie), Ryan Mertzig, Freddie Mertzig and Sara Stone (Andrew Weber); and her sister-in-law Shirl Klug. She is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary's church in Helen's name are appreciated by the family.

“I was one of Helen's "other " kids. She was my best babysitter EVER! My mom and I often talk about my younger years spent there and the good times. Also her awesome noodle dish that was simply made but oh so delicious and I could never seem to replicate...ever. Or maybe it just never tasted like Helen's because it was missing the love.! Helen was truly a one of a kind wonderful "mother" to all of her "kids". May you rest in peace dear Helen! Love, Little Annie xoxoxo”
