Mary Ann Abrahamson Obituary
Née: Barten) Mary Ann was born December 2, 1927 to Anton Barten (d. 1940) and Anna Keyzer Barten (d. 1960). Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Harvin Abrahamson (d. 2021) and 8 siblings; George, Ethyl, Leona, Roberta, Norbert, Edward, Lucille, and John.
Mary Ann married Harvin Abrahamson February 1, 1947. They have two sons, Terry Evan (JoAnn) of Rock Hill, SC, and Theodore Kent (Janet) of Racine, WI; four grandchildren, Erik (Carly), Kristin (Patrick Wiseley), Megan (Charles Ray), Maura (Jeff Spencer); and six great-grandchildren, Cole, Addison, Alyssa, Avery, Perry, and Taylor.
Mary Ann went to a one room country school and graduated from Marshfield High School at age 15. She earned a BA degree in Primary Education at UW Stevens Point and a MA degree at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI.
Mary Ann actually began her teaching career at age 16 (certification by a County Normal School) at a one room school house when WWII broke out. After the War, Mary Ann returned to UW Stevens Point to finish her degree, where she met and married Harvin Abrahamson. After graduation, Mary Ann taught 4th Grade finishing her last 36 years at Whitefish Bay.
Mary Ann and Harvin enjoyed attending Milwaukee Symphony, Ballet, and Repertory Theater. She was proud to have been accepted into MENSA. After retirement, Mary Ann volunteered at the Gathering Breakfast Program, Sojourner Truth House as a Transitional Living Mentor, and as the Librarian at Fox Point Lutheran Church. Mary Ann also believed in the importance of giving blood and was honored for giving 100 gallons over the years. In 1986 Harvin's parents took Harvin and Mary Ann to Norway to meet his cousins. For the next 45 years Harvin and Mary Ann traveled the world capturing memories and lots of pictures. They were happily married for 74 ½ years.
Visitation at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, 1615 N Wauwatosa Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53213, Friday, October 7 from 10:00 AM until the time of memorial service at 11:00 AM. Mary Ann's family wishes to thank the Congregational Home staff for their loving care of Mary Ann.
