Jonathon D. Leubner Obituary
Jonathon Daniel Leubner, age 63, passed away peacefully in his sleep from complications of Chordoma cancer on July 23, 2022. Jon was born February 2, 1959 in Waukesha, WI to the late Betty Lou (Morgan) Leubner and the late Helmuth Alan (Hal) Leubner. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Connolly-Leubner, of 36 years. He was a loving and understanding father to Zak Leubner, Benjamin (Addie) Leubner and Emily Leubner. He is also survived by his siblings, Christopher (Joan) Leubner, Scott (Heidi) Leubner, and Ann (Steve) Schefus. Jon is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and in-laws. His life was full of love for his family.
Jon loved family, friends, music, travel and the beauty of nature. One of his last regrets was that he wasn't able to go outside to take a walk with his wife, Mary. Please take a walk in his honor and notice the sun, birds, trees, flowers, water, whatever is around you. Jon would like that.
Jon's love of music led him to the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, OH where he earned his degree as an audio engineer. "When I went to school to learn the trade, I wasn't doing that to become a professional audio engineer. I was doing that so I could have knowledge in how to capture my own music in a professional way.". But as life happens, he had many interested in him helping them recognize their own dreams and a career was born. Over the years he had recorded thousands of commercials, done sound design for theater productions, participated in location recording, worked on the sound aspect for many inhouse corporate instructional videos, and recorded many musicians' CDs. "My life's work in my studio has been making people's dreams come true.".
Jon was an exchange student to Denmark in 1976 which led to many lifelong friendships and a love of travel. These friendships have resulted in many trips to Denmark, China, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, and across the continental United States over the years. Sometimes Jon would travel alone but often his family would accompany him. His family has benefitted in so many ways from the friendships Jon formed in the 70's. Jon greatly appreciated the sacrifices his loving parents made in order for that experience to happen.
Jon loved his family. He was very thankful that in 2019, prior to COVID, each side of his family had reunions so that he had an opportunity to spend time with all of his relatives. There was nothing he wouldn't do to help ensure the success of his children. He is very proud of all three of them. He regrets that he is unable to watch them grow and develop further as the loving, caring and creative adults that they have become. Jon was Mary's rock and she plans to channel that rock as her life continues.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many caregivers Jon had throughout the years since his cancer diagnosis. These include Aurora Health Care, Froedtert Hospital and The Cancer Center, Mayo Clinic-Rochester, and Horizon Home Hospice. The family also thanks the support given by the Chordoma Foundation.
Picture a wave in the ocean. You can see it, measure it, its height, the way the sunlight refracts when it passes through, and it's there, and you can see it, you know what it is. It's a wave. And then it crashes on the shore, and it's gone. But the water is still there, the wave was just a different way for the water to be for a little while. Jon's spirit is like the water, it has crashed on the shore, but he lives on in each and everyone of us whose life he touched.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Jon's life, we request memorials to the Chordoma Foundation. An open house musical celebration of Jon's life is scheduled for September 11, 2022, 5-8pm. It will be at the Muellner Building in the Riverview Room, Hart Park, 7300 Chestnut St, Wauwatosa, WI 53213.
