He was predeceased by: his sister Mary Hanke (late Donald). He is survived by: his son Raymond Schaefer; his significant other Cathy Schaefer; and his grandsons, Caleb, Noah and Ethan. He is also survived by his nieces, in-laws, other family members, friends, and co-workers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Froedtert Hospital Foundation.
