Jeanne Grahill Constantin Maviel Obituary
Jeanne Grahill Constantin Maviel born December 17, 1927, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on February 6, 2025. Jeanne leaves behind a legacy of love, a lifetime of teaching, gifts of faith and humor, and many memories for her family and friends to cherish.
Jeanne was the daughter of Michael Constantin and Sarah Jessica (Sadie) Vanderbosch. She grew up alongside her older brother, Jim, in Chicago, Illinois.
Jeanne was a professed Sister of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa for 24 years. Jeanne earned a bachelor's degree in music from Rosary College and a master's degree in French from the University of Minnesota. She completed post-graduate study in Paris. After many years of prayerful consideration, Jeanne left the Dominican Sisters' community and permanently moved to Paris, France to work for Kodak in 1973.
Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed Europe. She traveled as often as possible and learned a total of 5 languages in her lifetime. Music, art, and the French language and culture were her passions. She was blessed with a strong Catholic faith that allowed her to use her talents to help others.
On October 1, 1987, Jeanne married Gabriel "Gaby" Maviel, a widowed retired French police officer. With her marriage to Gaby, Jeanne gained a step-daughter, Pierrette Maviel and her two children Steevy Dery and Lesly Dery. Jeanne loved her years and all her dear friends and family in France. After Gaby died in 2004, Jeanne remained in France but eventually returned to Wisconsin in 2009. In February 2010, she moved into Independent Living at San Camillo in Wauwatosa and made many special friends. After a major stroke the day before her 90th birthday, Jeanne moved to St Camillus Assisted Living where she remained until she died. She very much enjoyed her 15 years as part of the San Camillo/St Camillus community, serving as a "welcome neighbor" for new residents, volunteering in the thrift store, serving as a eucharistic minister, a hospice volunteer and all-around loving soul.
Jeanne is lovingly remembered by her family: Judy (Brian) Halstead of Lincoln, NE; John Gassert of Grafton, WI; Jennifer Keith of Springdale, AR; Amy (Thomas) Crosse of Winder, GA; Chris (Stephanie) Constantin of Milton, GA and their families; Pierrette Maviel, Lesly Dery, Steevy Dery and their families, all of France.
Preceded in death by her parents Michael and Sadie Constantin, her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Jane Constantin, her niece/namesake Jeanne Gassert, her nephew Jeffrey Constantin and her husband Gabriel Maviel.
