Alan J. McGarigle Obituary
WAUWATOSA - Born to Eternal Life on Friday, February 23, 2024. Age 93. Beloved husband for 61 years of Marlene (nee Carlson). Dear father of Coleen (Keith) Bollinger and Mark (Michelle) McGarigle. Loving grandfather of Adam, Jeremy and Audrey (Jared) Bebee; and his great-grandchildren, Alan and Arthur. Dear brother-in-law of Karen McGarigle, Margaret McGarigle and Shirley Granning. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mildred McGarigle; his son Jon McGarigle and his brothers, Donald and Bruce McGarigle.
Visitation Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 11:00am until Time of Service at 1:00pm with a Reception to follow at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 10121 W. North Avenue, Wauwatosa. Private. Interment Wauwatosa Cemetery, Wauwatosa.
Alan is a true Wauwatosa native. He grew up on 65th Street just off North Avenue along with his two brothers. He is a veteran of the US Army and served in Korea where he earned the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Alan went on to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He taught 37 years with the Milwaukee Public Schools and enjoyed teaching art at Madison High School. Alan loved being creative and was involved in many art exhibits with his photography collection.
Alan loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved taking them to the zoo, bookstores and the North Avenue Grill.
