It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Phyllis Smedema of Waupun, Wisconsin, who passed away on May 7, 2022, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. Vanderkin, and Lulu Belle Moore Vanderkin, Sr.; her husbands, Clarence Vande Zande and Ben Smedema; her son Ronald Vande Zande; her siblings, Bill Vanderkin, John Vanderkin, Larry Vanderkin, Jean Taeffner, Mary Kehrmeyer and Priscilla Engstrom; her siblings-in-law, Jerrianne Vanderkin, Margaret Veenhuis, Alene Hull, Janice Orr, Beatrice Wiersma, Charlie Taeffner, Bob Engstrom, Art Docter, Harvey Veenhuis, Ed Hull, Hugh Orr, John DeVries and John Wiersma; her stepson-in-law Lee Batterman; and her stepgrandson Charles Batterman.
She is survived by: her children, David Vande Zande (Paula) and Luann Giebink (Tom); her grandchildren, Dave Vande Zande, Jr. (Kim Van Buren), Jennifer Holz (Dan), Nikki Bruesch (Derek), Caleb Giebink, Sam Giebink (Megan), Josh Giebink and Ben Giebink; her great grandchildren, Mason, Raegan and Reese; her brothers, Ted Vanderkin (Beth) and Dave Vanderkin (Nancy); her siblings-in-law, Helen Vanderkin, Nancy Vanderkin, Norma Smedema, Jessie Smedema and Curt Smedema; and her stepchildren, Gene Smedema (Gloria), Eric Smedema (Troyce), Ken Smedema (Jennifer), Alyce Reese (John), Nancy Gattuso (Matthew) and Ruth Ireland (Dan). She is also survived by 19 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
