He was predeceased by: his parent Richard Bernthal (Agnes); his wife Bernice Bernthal; and his siblings, Lorine Bernthal (Conzelman), Arnold Bernthal (Doris) and Wilmar Bernthal (Lorna).
He is survived by: his children, Carol Bernthal of Port Townsend, WA, John Bernthal (Nancy) of Valparaiso, IN, James Bernthal (Gail Mitchell) of Seattle, WA, Timothy Bernthal (Judy Tyson) of Seattle, WA and Thomas Bernthal (Marjorie Wood) of Madison, WI; his grandchildren, Benjamin Bernthal (Lisa Sullivan), Dan DiPrisco, Jamie Bernthal and Serena Bernthal-Jones; his great grandchild Holly DiPrisco; and his brothers, Frederick Bernthal (Shirley) and Herbert Bernthal (Frances). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
