He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Thompson and Pearl Thompson (Larson); and his siblings, Russell Thompson, Ann Thompson and Susan Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Thompson (Miller); his children, Jeff Thompson (LouAnn) and Lisa Steinbach; his grandson Reid Steinbach (Bethee Heger); and his great grandchildren, Harlyn Steinbach and Paizly Steinbach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude's Children Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
