He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Holmes and Margaret Holmes (Schumacher); and his siblings, William Holmes, Carol Sutter and Diane Devine.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Pertzborn; his sons, Paul Holmes (Joni) and Tim Holmes (Jean); his granddaughters, Elizabeth Seubert (Brian) and Katherine Hartkopf (Eric); his great grandchildren, Collin, Dylan Seubert, Josephine and Cecilia Hartkopf; and his sisters, Dolores Sutter (Raphael) and Virginia Oldenburg.
