He was predeceased by: his mother Ellen Smithson Fields (Barnacastle); his son Robert Smithson; his father Philip Smithson Sr.; and his siblings, Louis Smithson, Virginia Cutrell and Grace Hines.
He is survived by: his wife Rosemary; his children, David Smithson (Monica), Mike Smithson (Tami) and Rosemarie Dresen (Ron); his brother Wealey Smithson (Ann); and his grandchildren, Carrie, Marcy, Brad, Tara, Amanda, Candice, Nathan, Jenna and Summer. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Salvation Army and Tunnels to Towers.
