She was predeceased by: her husband Donald J. Kubec; her parents, Herman Eckardt and Helen Eckardt (Kramer); her birth mother Elsie Gorenz; her adoptive father Dr. John Schmitt; her half-sisters, Sylvia and Sandy; her parents-in-law, Stanley and Bessie Kubec; and her brother-in-law Stan Kubec.

She is survived by: her children, Laurie Mertens (Scott) of Manitowoc, Steven Kubec (Brandee) of Two Rivers and Lisa Behnke of Manitowoc; her granddaughters, Arielle, Bianca and Caitlin (Matthew Mazur); her stepgranddaughters, Bryanna Ashenbrener (Max) and Lexie Mertens (Ryan Richter); her stepgreat-grandchildren, Paisley and Brecken; her close friend Jerry Bauer; her siblings, Susie Eckardt of Algoma and Charles Eckardt (Sally) of Francis Creek; her half-sister Sheila Fonseca of Indiana; and her sisters-in-law, Jean Lambert (Richard) of DePere and Gail Kubec of Kewaunee. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
