Elaine Marion Sauer Obituary

Elaine passed away on June 28, 2023 at the age of 96 years. Born on July 2, 1926, she was the daughter of Charles F. and Marie Eichhorst Sauer. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers, Warren Charles Sauer and Arthur Thomas Sauer, by her nephew, Paul Sauer, and by her niece, Christine Sauer Parsons. She is survived by her nephews: Dan (Susan) Sauer; Randall Sauer; Charles (Jane) Sauer; Mark Sauer; and Terence Sauer.

Elaine graduated from Rufus King High School in 1944, and began work at Red Star Yeast Company. She remained there for twenty years, leaving to enroll in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She graduated in 1967 with a degree in accounting, and was employed at First Wisconsin Bank. She was with First Wisconsin for over twenty years, leading the bank's International Audit Division. She was the first female vice president and officer of the First Wisconsin Corporation.

Elaine was a long-time member of Zebaoth Lutheran Church (WELS), singing in the choir, and performing with the Zebaoth Players. More recently, she has attended Christ Alone Lutheran Church (WELS), continuing to be an active and involved parishioner. Elaine sang for many years with the Lutheran Chorale of Milwaukee, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, particularly the theater and the Milwaukee Symphony.

Her favorite dog was the Pekingese, and she had a number of these dear canine companions over the years. She was an avid and accomplished gardener, and had a lifelong interest in travel, from camping in the western U.S. to months of European touring. Elaine had a keen financial mind, read the Wall Street Journal daily, and never met an annual report she didn't want to study.

Elaine was a devoted daughter, taking care of her mother, Marie, until her passing, a loving sister to her brothers, and a beloved aunt to her niece and nephews. Her remaining nephews and their wives will ever miss her, her wise counsel, and her constant love.

Elaine's funeral will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Christ Alone Lutheran Church, 247 S. Main St., Thiensville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m.
