Mildred Wierl Obituary
Of Sussex. (Nee Frank) Millie was born to Eternal Life on October 28, 2023 at the age of 90 years old. Beloved wife of the late Leo Wierl. Loving mother of Joseph (Tammy) Wierl, Sally (Douglas) Unger, the late Susan Jacobi, Judy (the late Kenneth) Horwatich, Marianne (Thomas) Mabry. Proud grandmother of Nicole (Justin) Bainbridge, Katie (John) Ray, Jason Jacobi, Michael (Andrea) Unger, Phillip (Kendalle) Unger, Andrew (Megan) Wierl, Emily Mabry, Alexander Horwatich, Colin Mabry, Abigail Horwatich, Allie Horwatich and her dear great grandchildren. Millie is also survived by her sister Shirley Fitzgerald, brother and sister's in laws, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Millie grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI with her seven siblings and attended St Mary's Catholic School. She met her future husband Leo through her sister Doris who was marrying Leo's brother Ralph. Millie and Leo were married on October 2, 1954. They raised their five children in Sussex, Wisconsin with love, laughter, and proved hard work could make dreams come true.
Millie held various jobs over the years. She owned and operated Leo & Millie's Tavern in Hubertus, where she perfected her Old Fashion, all while she was a mother to young children. She also worked at Jewel Food Stores, Milwaukee Spice Company, and Kohl's Department Stores Distribution Center where she would retire from in 1998. Millie also helped Leo work the family farm in Sussex.
Millie's favorite place in her home was the kitchen. She loved to cook and bake for her family and the many nephews and nieces who helped on the farm. Millie never followed a recipe and added a little of this and that to perfect her dishes. She would also cook meals for St. Ben's homeless shelter. She was also an avid reader.
Millie was active in the American Legion Post 382 in Menomonee Falls. She would help cook meals, bartend, and was the chaplain for many years.
After retirement, Millie and Leo spent many weekends at their cabin in Wautoma, WI where they would fish and reminisce family stories over a campfire. Their children and grandchildren would join them at the cottage.
Millie was active at St. James Catholic Church. She leaned on her faith through the good times and bad times. Her faith taught her that "love was patient, love is kind. It did not boast, it is not proud.". Millie would read this First Corinthians verse at her grandchildren's weddings to remind them that love is always the answer. She lived a blessed life for 90 years. Millie is now in the arms of her Loving Savior Jesus Christ and dancing the polka with Leo in heaven.
Visitation on Friday, November 2, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church, W220 N6588 Town Line Rd, from 9:30AM until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Privately will be laid to rest next to Leo and Susan at St. James RoseHill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sussex Food Pantry or the American Legion Post #382 in Menomonee Falls, would be appreciated.
