Lorraine M. Fackler Obituary
Lorraine M. Fackler, 96, of Sussex, Wisconsin, passed away on August 6, 2024. Lorraine was born June 13, 1928, to the late Agnes Sorenson and Erik Sunila in Menominee, Michigan. Lorraine spent most of her childhood in Daggett, Michigan, until moving to the Milwaukee area where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from West Division High School in 1946. Lorraine was united in marriage with David B. Fackler in September, 1949. They had two children and enjoyed 56 loving years together until separated by David's death in 2005.
As a young girl, Lorraine worked in at the corner grocery store her mother owned and ran. During WWII, she worked as a coil winder. Later, she worked at a hardware store mixing paint and helping customers find the right hardware for their construction projects. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved spending time with small children, including taking care of her granddaughter Margo when she was young. Lorraine and her husband David enjoyed traveling by car around the US, playing cards, listening to jazz, watching the Packers, and socializing with friends.
After David's passing, Lorraine visited the Sussex Senior Dining Center every day for over a decade for lunch, where she volunteered and made sure that all new visitors felt welcomed into the community. Those who met Lorraine found inspiration in her warmth, strength and resilience.
Lorraine is survived by daughter Kathleen Nickel and son Steven Fackler (Sandra Procopia); grandchildren Margo Baxter (Susan Zaeske), Lauren Nickel-Braun (Michael Braun), Bradley Nickel (Jessica); and great-grandchildren Gus and Plum Nickel-Braun. Lorraine was predeceased by her mother, father, and stepfather, husband David Fackler, and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be missed.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Brookfield, and Castle hospice for their compassionate care of Lorraine.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 1PM until the time of the 2:30PM Celebration of Life at Wisconsin Memorial Park in the Chapel of Flowers.
