He was predeceased by: his parents, Leland Gerndt and Norma Gerndt (Nelson) of Suring; his in-laws, Hilbert and Agnes Buchert; his sisters-in-law, Beverly Burris and Karen Kuntz; his nephew Mike Burris; and his niece Bridget Matarrese.
He is survived by: his wife Barb; his children, Bill Gerndt (Donna), Brian Gerndt (Heidi), Brenda Socha (Brian Korpita) and Becky Kafka (Chris); his grandchildren, Ally Gerndt, Kaitlyn Gerndt (Bennet Laubenstein), Stormy Poeschel (Andrew), Scout Gerndt (Mara), Addy DeRusha (Mason) and Riley Kafka; his great grandchild Darby Poeschel; and his siblings, Richard Gerndt (Carla), Kathy Rupiper (Richard) and Lee Gerndt (Bev). He is also survived by brothers and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews.
