He was predeceased by: his parents, Marie Gerding, (Nault) and Merrill Gerding, Sr.; and his daughter Jamie Lynn Gerding. He is survived by: his siblings, JoAnn Haas of Superior, Janet Smit of Paynesville, MN, Joe Gerding of Superior, Jim Gerding of Wells, MN and Merrill Gerding, Jr. of Superior; his granddaughter Samantha Strong of Baraboo, WI; and his stepsiblings, Scott Gerding of Jacksonville, FL and Becky Moe of Superior. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
